Doris Damerow

May 22, 1924 — July 2, 2013

Doris Elaine Damerow, age 89, of Marshall, formerly of Battle Creek, went home to be with The Lord, on July 2, 2013 in her son Brian's home in Marshall, Michigan.

Doris was born in Shelby, Michigan to Albert and Violet (Morningstar) Hulsebos on May 22, 1924.She graduated in 1942 from Bellevue School. She was very proud and told many stories of attending Bellevue's one room school house.

Attending a USO dance with her best friend, she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Damerow. They married on June 17, 1945 in her mother's home.

Doris was a member of Level Park Baptist Church for many years. She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School until the age of 82. Doris loved to bake, she was known for her Apple pie. She enjoyed to sew and crochet and made many beautiful quilts. In the 1970s she worked at Festamacher, as a manager and also worked many years as a seamstress for Clair's Tux Shop. One of her proud moments was when she made the Tuxedo for Tony the Tiger, later retiring to Florida with her late husband. She enjoyed Playing cards, Scrabble and going to garage sales with her family, she loved to dicker down prices no matter where she was.

Doris is survived by her daughter Luann (David) Wickham of Battle Creek, her sons : Brian (Sue) Damerow of Marshall, Michigan; Dale (Tammi) Damerow , John (Denise) Damerow  both of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Edwin (Joan) Damerow of Bedford, Michigan; her eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces

Doris is preceded in death by both of her parents, her brothers: Carl, Don, Bud and Clinton,  her sisters: Dorothy and Naomi, her adored husband Bill ,and their daughter Karen.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Doris’ life will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Deacon Oscar Chantrenne officiating.  Interment will follow at Morgan Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may made to Oaklawn Hospice, 122 High Street, Marshall, Michigan or the Michigan chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
