Donna Welks

Donna L. Welks, age 82, of Battle Creek, passed away on September 24, 2022, at Alamo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kalamazoo.  She was born on March 29, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio the daughter of Donald E. and Eleanor L. (Lieb) Parker.  Donna graduated from high school in Cleveland, Ohio in 1958 and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in English from Ohio University.  Donna lived in Battle Creek for over 50 years.  She previously worked for the Battle Creek Shopper News and Lifespan in Battle Creek as a receptionist, retiring in 2012.  Donna was an active member at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, where she had taught Sunday School, was a call tree member, and volunteered to teach children to read.  She enjoyed quilting, reading, and gardening.  Donna was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her son; Doug (Mindy) Welks of West Lafayette, IN., daughters; Dawn (Eric) Sumners of Shelby Township, MI., Jennifer (John) Arnsman of Kalamazoo, MI., grandchildren; Ellie Arnsman of Kalamazoo, Clare Sumners of South Carolina, and Jack Sumners of Shelby Township.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  Memorial service scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Rev. Julie Elmore officiating.  Inurnment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.  Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
