Dennis Beers

September 21, 1941 — January 8, 2016

Dennis R. “Denny” Beers, Age 74, Of Lawrence, MI, Dennis R. Beers (known by his friends as Denny) passed away on January 8, 2016. Dennis made his home on Christie Lake near Lawrence, Michigan. During the past five years, he and his wife Donna spent winters in the Fort Myers, Florida area. Dennis also resided in South Haven for 20
years prior to his move to Lawrence. Dennis was born on September 21, 1941 and grew up in Battle Creek. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and continued his education at Michigan State University where he received his BSCE in Civil Engineering. He was a loyal Spartan, and he and Donna were active members of the MSU Alumni Association. During his career, he served on committees involved in the placement of MSU Engineering interns.  Prior to retirement, Dennis spent over 40 years as a Civil Engineer and also in environmental/project management consulting services throughout the United States. In the mid-eighties, Dennis founded the consulting firm of Beers – Rand and Anderson (BRACO, Inc.) where he served as Senior Partner. He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and many environmental groups and organizations.  Dennis was very interested in the Great Lakes and boating. He was a past member of the South Haven Yacht Club where he served on the board of directors. He received the Marty Benacker Award for distinguished service in the area of riverfront property improvements. He became a member of the Great Lakes Shipping Geeks as a result of his interest in shipping vessels.  Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Donald R. and Rose (McPharlin) Beers, and brother Donald R. Beers, Jr. He is survived by his wife Donna Burns-Russell, two daughters Morgan Reed of Colorado Springs, CO. and Shannon Tijan of Brighton, MI. and her two daughters. His former wife and friend Rowena Collins of Colorado Springs, CO and brother Terry Lee Beers of San Diego, CA. also survive.  In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place.
