Delbert “Ted” Sweet, age 91, of Battle Creek, passed away on June 1, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born on May 26, 1931 in Battle Creek, the son of Delbert and Bessie (Hine) Sweet. Ted was a lifelong area resident of Battle Creek, where he lived on the same street for over 70 years. He graduated from Lakeview High School in 1949, then went on to receive his associate degree from Argubright Business College. Ted was the assistant fire chief for Battle Creek Township for over 20 years and worked for General Motors retiring in 1988 after 22 years of service. Ted was a member of the Metropolitan Club for the fire department and the American Legion Post 298. He was an avid NASCAR fan and drove a stock car at Daytona Beach for his 80 th birthday, topping out at 148 mph. Ted also enjoyed camping, working in his yard, and was known to his family as “Mr. Fix-It”. He was united in marriage on July 21, 1951 to Diane Kikstadt at the Congregational Church in Battle Creek. Diane and Ted enjoyed wintering in Clearwater Florida for 34 years, and spending time at their cottages in Petosky, Lake City and South Haven. Ted was preceded in death by his parents, and an uncle, Harold Hine. Surviving are his wife; Diane Sweet of Battle Creek, children; Steven (Marion) Sweet of South Haven, Sylvia Sweet and Suzan (Tom) Cramutolo, both of Battle Creek, grandchildren; Eric Rombaugh, Teasha Schmidt, Dr. Brooke Sweet, Daniel Rombaugh, Kyle Sweet, Michael Cramutolo, Matthew Flynt, Lucas Flynt, and 8 great grandchildren. Memorial service scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services with a light luncheon to follow the service. Private inurnment to take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
