Daniel Smittendorf

Daniel Lee Smittendorf, age 56, of Kalamazoo, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital. He was born September 7, 1960 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Lee and Janice (McElvain) Smittendorf. A 1979 graduate of Vicksburg High School, Dan worked in the Maintenance Department of Bronson Hospital for over 30 years. An avid runner, Dan was a member of the Kalamazoo Area Runners and was in training for the Kalamazoo Half Marathon. He is survived by his children: Derek (Ashley) Smittendorf and Darci (Nathan) Heath; his grandson who meant the world to him, Liam Smittendorf; father: Lee (Marsha) Smittendorf; mother: Janice (Jim) Wise; sister: Shannon (Dan) Frizzo; brother: LJ (Tomissa) Smittendorf; nephew: Luke Frizzo and three nieces: Maggie Frizzo, Ashley and Jenny Smittendorf. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Dan’s life will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
