Charles M. Hale, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away on October 31, 2018. He was born on June 14, 1935 in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of David and Agnes Barve. Charles was formerly employed as a security guard at the Buckingham Inn, and from 1965 until 1982 as a meter reader for the water division for the City of Battle Creeks and Townships. He was a member of the Word for Life Church. Charles enjoyed traveling and visiting the Mackinaw Bridge, attending car shows, collecting Hot Rod miniature cars and kerosene lamps, and attending flea markets at Cornwell’s Turkey Farm. Charles was a regular patron at Mr. Don’s Restaurant, where you find him with a cup of coffee and socializing with his friends. He also would spend a lot of his time walking around and talking to the employees at Meijer on Columbia Ave. in Battle Creek, whom he became friends with during his frequent visits. Charles was preceded in death by his wife; Helen Hale in 2005, and his brothers; Jerry and Vernon Barve. Surviving are his son; Charles R. Walman of Battle Creek, sister; Nina Gore of Battle Creek, brothers; Harry Barve of Tennessee, David Barve of Kalamazoo, and his family and caregivers; Steven and Bridget Walman of Climax. The family would like to express a special thank you for the exceptional care given by Great Lakes Caring Hospice and all the employees and friendships he made at Meijer. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. until noon on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral home & Cremation Services. Following the visitation, a procession to Reese Cemetery will take place where graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Pastor Jeff McNally officiating.
