Catherine Blankenburg, 90 of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at her home. She was born October 18, 1920 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Herman C. and Rose (Severance) Blankenburg. Catherine attended Battle Creek Public Schools and prior to her retirement had worked at Leila Hospital for 37 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, liked to play Bingo and enjoyed Detroit Tiger Baseball. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Mary Huver and Ellen Ainsworth. Surviving is her sister: Della Blankenburg and two brothers: Herman A. Blankenburg and Ed (Mary) Blankenburg all of Battle Creek; a special niece: Janice Keeler of Lansing and many other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home this evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church or the Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools Foundation.
