Carolyn L. Burnett, Age 95, Of Battle Creek, Passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Carolyn was born on January 23, 1921, in Sherwood, MI, the daughter of Ruell and Mary (Sladic) Adams. She had been a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Sherwood High School where she was valedictorian and was awarded a scholarship from the State of Michigan. Carolyn then attended Western Michigan University for two years and earned her Rural Teaching Certificate. She was 19 when she started teaching at a one room school house in Bronson, MI. She taught there four years and then went on to teach for other schools for 42 and a half years, including 36 years at Springfield Elementary School. In August 1948, she was united in marriage to Richard A. Burnett who preceded her in death in 1969. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Battle Creek. She enjoyed playing the guitar, yodeling, collecting dolls, singing with the Burnham Brook Singers, writing poetry, haiku, first one to laugh at a good joke and spending time with her family and friends. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Kenwood (Sandra) Adams, Dannie P. Adams, Nancy (Tom) Adams-Pratt, Joan Babas, Margie Adams and Neal Adams; many grandnieces and nephews; many great grandnieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the funeral home with The Rev. Dr. David Laisum officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
