Carol Anne (Byrd) Boughner died Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Glenn Arbor Hospice residence following a brief battle with cancer. Carol was born July 25, 1954 in Battle Creek to John R. and Arlene P. Byrd. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School with the Class of 1973, and enjoyed attending class reunions. A friendly and outgoing person, Carol eventually joined Meijer as a greeter, and enjoyed meeting and assisting their customers for twenty years. When not working, Carol loved car travel, computer games and getting together with family and friends. Though kind and generous in nature, Carol was a ruthless competitor when it came to table games; she was driven to win. While Carol loved all animals, she was particularly fond of cats, and she will be much missed by her current “family” of three. Carol was preceded in death by a stillborn son, William Thomas, both parents, her husband Preston Boughner, and her grandparents, aunts, and uncles on both sides of the family. She is survived by her brother John P. (Joanne) Byrd, sister Sandra (Jake Beard) Byrd of Battle Creek, step-father Theodore C. Peck, Sr. of Arizona, step-brothers Theodore C. Peck, Jr. and Robert D. (Karen) Peck, step-sister Maritza Peck, nephew Todd Byrd, niece Tammy (Willie) Putman, special niece Barbara Borland Bielak, special friend Vickie Banks, many dear cousins and numerous friends both near and far who loved her and will miss her. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a private service afterward. A Celebration of Life gathering for family and friends will be planned for the near future. Memorial tributes may be made to Companion Cats, 29 Hoag Street, Battle Creek, MI 49014, or to Glenn Arbor Hospice c/o Hospice Care of Southwest MI, 222.N Kalamazoo Mall, Suite 100, Kalamazoo, MI 49007-3882.
