Carman "Carms" E. Hamilton

Carman “Carms” E. Hamilton, age 86, of Battle Creek, passed away on August 27, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on September 13, 1937 in Port Huron, Michigan, the son of Robert and Anna (Hawkins) Hamilton. Carman graduated from Port Huron High School in 1955, then moved to Battle Creek in 1972. He was previously employed as a Mechanical Officer for Canadian National Railroad for forty-four years before retiring as the Chief Mechanical Officer; during his time with the railroad he played Santa on the Grand Trunk Western Holiday Train. Following his retirement from the railroad he continued by providing handyman and community services where you might find him fixing your roof, landscaping, deck building or a wide host of work; though he made sure to leave his calendar open every Christmas Eve to bring the magic into families homes by continuing the Santa tradition. Carman was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church and a volunteer Hearings Officer for the City of Battle Creek Dangerous Buildings Committee. Carman touched the lives of all those that met him including his “40 old ladies” but none more important than his wife. Carman’s other passions included wood working, making bird houses, hosting pig roasts and spending time with his family. Though working was his calling to those that knew him he was a pillar of support that never wavered with a feisty sense of humor, and a quick and witty mind that was always ready to play practical jokes. Carman was survived by his wife Norma Jean Hamilton (Gostinger); they united in marriage on February 7, 1959, in Port Huron, MI and their three children; Stephen (Cindy Mitchell) Hamilton of Climax, MI., Michelle (Gary) Wolfe of Battle Creek, Daniel (Lisa Mandrell) Hamilton of Rockford, MI., his sister, Linda Simpson of Port Huron, MI., and grandchildren; Dylan (Angela) Wolfe of Battle Creek, and Joshua (Stephanie) Hamilton of Kalamazoo, MI. Carman was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Jerry and Bob Hamilton. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30, 2024 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by the Recitation of The Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday August 31, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass.
