Carl V. “Bill” Misner, Age 92, Carl Vernon Misner died on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born on August 8, 1921 in Battle Creek, the son of Harry and Cora (DePeel) Misner. His father owned Misner Market which was a family operation. Bill worked in the business many days before and after school, which was good preparation for his future vocation. He attended Southwestern Junior High and graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1939. Bill loved sports and played baseball, football and basketball all through these years earning 10 varsity letters. In 1942 he married Doris Willis in Angola Indiana. That same year Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served 4 years in New Guinea and the Philippines as Staff Sergeant, Unit #220. Upon returning home he and his brother Harry “Pete” Misner operated Misner Brothers Market which was known for their excellent meat department. Upon retirement in 1968, Bill raised steers on the 30 acres surrounding his home on his beloved Graham Lake. Bill was an avid fisherman and caught his good share of blue gills in that lake. He also loved to hunt with his buddies and learned to play golf which he also enjoyed. Bill and Doris wintered in Hudson, FL for many years together. Bill later moved to Lady Lake, FL (The Villages) with his special partner Ellen Bordnick. Bill was preceded in death by his beloved Doris of 46 years; his parents, brothers, Don and Harry “Pete” Misner; sisters, Mildred McCarty and Beatrice Bramble. Surviving are a daughter, Carole (James) Trent and a son, Joseph (Candice) Misner both of Battle Creek; 9 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; Ellen and her three daughters and families and sister-in-law, Dorothy Misner. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 5:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2014, at the funeral home.
