Brian King

Brian Robert King age 59, of Portage, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 surrounded by family and friends.  He was born on March 19, 1957 in Battle Creek, the son of Lewis and Elaine (Whiting) King.  Brian was raised in the Battle Creek area.  As a child, he loved everything about the outdoors, including bike riding, swimming, fishing and camping.  As a teenager, he competed in the regional Special Olympics.  Brian remained a dedicated sports fan throughout the rest of his life.  He loved the Detroit Lions, Tigers and Red Wings, in addition to several local teams, even being named “Fan of the Year” by the Battle Creek Battle Cats.  He was a long-time employee of Felpausch, Goodwill and MRC, always known to have a smile on his face for anyone he came across.  Brian loved people, and one of his favorite pastimes was to sit and watch people going by.  However, his two favorite things in the world were spending time with his family and enjoying good food.  His healthy appetite for both food and life was well known.  He enjoyed everything, from going on fishing and road trips with his dad, attending sporting events with his brother and nephews, to dinner and board games with his family. Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine in 2000.  He is survived by his father; Lewis E. King of Battle Creek, Brother; Richard L. (Carol) King of Portage, Michigan, niece; Emily King of Kalamazoo, Michigan, nephews; Bradley King of Richland, Michigan, and Zachary King of Lakewood, Colorado.  The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Medilodge of Portage and Southwest Michigan Hospice.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Baseline United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior to service, Dr. Glenn Wegner officiating.  Interment at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Southwest Michigan Hospice.  Condolences to the family may be left at www.henryfuneralhome.org
