Brenda Hammons

Brenda G. Hammons, age 71, of Battle Creek, passed away on February 24, 2019 at her residence.  She was born on April 8, 1947 in Kentucky, the daughter of Kenneth and Ruby (Hefflin) Young.  Brenda graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1967, then attending Kellogg Community College where she received her degree as an LPN.  Brenda worked at as nurse for the Sisters of Mercy, Leila Hospital, and Battle Creek Health System.  She loved to read, crochet and spend time with her family.  She regularly attended the United Methodist Church on Helmer Road, where she was united in marriage to Jimmy Lee Hammons on February 11, 1969.  Brenda was an active member that helped raise funds to build the silo addition on the church, where her and her husband were the first couple to marry in the church following the addition.  Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; Kenneth and Ruby Young, and her husband Jimmy Lee Hammons on January 10, 2019.  Surviving are her daughters; Tina (Larry) Rathbun of Springfield, Tammy Hammons of Battle Creek, brother; Randal Young of Athens, grandsons; Shane Hammons, Zackary Rathbun, and a great grandson; Owen Rathbun.  The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics of Michigan.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
