Bradley Robert Johnston, age 71, of Battle Creek, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on February 12, 2025 at Centrica Rose Arbor Place in Kalamazoo, Michigan after a 15 year battle with Leukemia. He was born in Battle Creek on March 30, 1953, the son of Robert L. Johnston and Merry L. (Moser) Johnston. Brad graduated from Lakeview High School in 1971 and went on to get an Associate’s Degree from Kellogg Community College. Brad proudly served his country as a sergeant with the Air Force, serving in Okinawa, Japan as an Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Operator during the Vietnam War. Brad then worked for the Battle Creek VA and retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Brad was known as one of the world’s biggest Three Stooges fans. He also loved history and could tell you even the most obscure facts about any U.S. President. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. In addition, he was a passionate lifelong baseball fan, and one of the biggest thrills of his life was seeing the Chicago Cubs finally win the World Series in 2016. On June 2, 1984, Brad married the love of his life, Cindy L. Heffel, in Battle Creek; she survives. Also surviving are his children, Brian (Sarah) Johnston of St. Joseph and Tyler Johnston of Battle Creek; three grandchildren, Noah, Levi, and Zoey; brother, Marty (Tina) Johnston of Sault Ste. Marie; sisters-in-law Ann (Mike) Johnston of Battle Creek and Robin Johnston of Marshall; and many other loving family members and close friends. Brad was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mike Johnston. The family will host a visitation on Saturday, February 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a celebration of life service officiated by Mike Brown at noon and a luncheon to follow at South Side Bible Church, 4515 Beckley Road in Battle Creek. Graveside service at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI will be held on Thursday, February 20th at 11am, friends welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or may be directed to the family.
