Betty West

Betty J. West, age 92, of Battle Creek, passed away Friday, November 29, 2013 at her home. She was born February 22, 1921 in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of Ralph R. and Ruth H. (Minges) McCormack. Betty was a 1939 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, attended Mullinex Business School and Kellogg Community College. She had worked for Stanley Home Products from 1955 to 1963, the Michigan Air National Guard, Kellogg Field from which she retired in 1982 and worked at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home for over 20 years following her retirement. Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, past secretary of Dudley School PTA and past president of A.N.G. Auxiliary. She had been a member of Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, Elks Lodge #131 Vivians, Battle Creek Area Lioness, Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority, and P.E.O. She enjoyed golfing, boating and bowling as well as watching baseball. From 1979 to 1989 she was a committee member and host family for the Worlds and International Balloon Championships. She was involved with the Leila Follies and member of the Community Hospital Auxiliary where she had served as co-chairman of the sewing guild. On November 22, 1941 Betty was married to Lee Roy West in Bryan, Ohio and he preceded her in death in 1975. She was also preceded by her parents and a son, Michael L. West. Betty is survived by her son: Pat West; granddaughter: Tara West-Margolis; grandson: Michael L. West II; brother: Ralph R. McCormack, Jr; niece: Brenda Moon and nephew: Jeff McCormack. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. A private interment will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association. www.henryfuneralhome.org
