Betty Jean (Dayhuff) Frey, age 88, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Oaklawn Hospital. She was born January 18, 1927 in Battle Creek, Michigan the only child of Shirley John and Georgia (Powers) Dayhuff. She lived all her life in the Battle Creek area, attending Post Elementary and Southeastern Junior High and graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1945. During her high school years, Betty worked at several downtown businesses. She was a homemaker and co-owner of the former Kline Machine Company in Battle Creek until 1974. In 1964 she worked as a secretary for Channing Services and Federal Home Life Insurance for 22 years, retiring in 1986. In June of 1984 Betty was married to Merlin G. Frey at the First Wesleyan Church. Betty is survived by her husband Merlin; son: David (Pam) Kline of Battle Creek; grandson: Jason (Darcy) Kline of Battle Creek; three great-grandchildren; step-daughter: Mary Lou Frey of Eaton Rapids; one step-son: Richard (Dawn) Frey of Ceresco; several step- grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; daughter: Nancy Bond; step-son: Robert Frey and step-daughter: Merlyn Hinton. A past member of the local chapter of the Good Sam Travel Club, she enjoyed traveling, camping with her family, spending winters in both Florida and Texas and going to NASCAR races. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Ryan Wolford of First Church of the Nazarene officiating. Interment will follow at Hicks Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and requests that memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. www.henryfuneralhome.org
