Betty Decoe

Betty Anne DeCoe, age 81, of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, September 09, 2013. She was born December 5, 1931 in Laurium, Michigan the daughter of Arthur and Laura Elizabeth (Christensen) Jarvela. On September 4, 1952 she graduated from the St. Joseph Hospital nursing program in Hancock, MI and worked as a nurse all of her life.  Betty had been the night supervisor at Lakeview General and later retired from the Battle Creek V.A. Hospital. On December 13, 1952 she was married to Dale Allen DeCoe who preceded her in death in 1967. Betty enjoyed bowling, traveling, sewing and playing cards, and loved to watch Jeopardy. She dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Surviving are four children: Mike (Barb) DeCoe of Delton, Laura (Danny) Ure of Battle Creek, Lynn (Michael Barlow) Hooper of Battle Creek and Lisa (Nelson Norris) Homan of Battle Creek; eight grandchildren: Corey DeCoe, Chelsea (Brian) Downing, Eric Hooper, Elliott Ure, Evan Ure, Brian Homan, Megan Homan and Sarah Homan; one great-grandson: Ethan Morehart; one brother: Arthur “Bud” (Betty) Jarvela of Sun City Center, FL and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. James Dyke officiating.  A private interment will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice.
