Betty Brugh

Betty “Jeanne” Brugh age 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2019. Betty was born on January 16, 1927, in Battle Creek the daughter of John Howard and Janice Meredith (Carswell) Payne. She was a 1944 graduate of Charlotte High School in Charlotte, MI. Jeanne then moved to California after graduation with her best friend Bertha Brugh, she returned to Charlotte and married James H. Brugh on September 30, 1945. They were married almost 60 years when he preceded her in 2005. Jeanne was a Battle Creek resident since 1961 coming from Charlotte. She was a homemaker until 1971 when she went to work for Transamerica Life Insurance Company retiring in 1989. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and attended until failing health made it unable for her to attend. She enjoyed working in the yard, golfing, bowling, crocheting and playing the piano. Jeanne loved spending time with her family and especially all of her grandchildren. Surviving are her daughters, Janice (Gerald) Mills of Aurora, IL, Penny (Michael) Decker of Battle Creek and Julie (Michael) Armstrong of Battle Creek; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren. In accordance with her wishes a private graveside service was held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American cancer Society or the Michigan Parkinson’s Foundation.
