Bernard “Bernie” J. Larner, age 61, of Battle Creek, passed away on April 5, 2021 at the Laurels of Bedford. He was born on July 18, 1959 in Battle Creek, MI., the son of Lloyd and Gladys (Bonke) Larner. Bernie graduated from Lakeview High School in 1977, then attended Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was employed by Hudson’s, and later by Marshall Fields for twenty-one years. Bernie was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, American Legion Oscar Brady Post 298, Boy Scouts of America, and the Nacha Mowat Lodge 373 (A legacy lodge.) Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts and uncles and his “Special” aunt; Beatrice Larner. Surviving are his sons; Matthew Larner of Nashville, MI., Andrew (Ashley Sparks) Larner of Battle Creek, brothers; Frederick Larner of Battle Creek, Michael (Loretta) Larner of Augusta, Joseph (Susan) Larner of Burlington, granddaughters; Keri Thomas and Phoenix Larner, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, former wife; Paula Reid and in-laws; Tom and Jean Reid. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, followed by the Recitation of The Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Masks are required with no more than 25 persons at a time in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rev. Max Nightingale, celebrant. Interment will follow the Mass at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools Scholarship Fund.
