Barthell Cornelius White was born on October 19, 1944 in River Rouge, Michigan at home to the union of Adam and Maybelle White. He was the third of four children. He was a member of the St. John AME Church in River Rouge. He attended the River Rouge Public School system in which enjoyed performing in the marching band in high school. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army and to his enjoyment was able to travel to different countries. After completion of service he was employed at the Great Lakes Steel Company in River Rouge. Also he contributed to the development of the Renaissance Center in Detroit as a construction worker. Later he decided to pursue a career in the medical field as a registered nurse graduating from the Highland Park Community College at the age 40. Upon retirement from nursing he often did volunteer work at the Veterans Hospital amongst many others until his passing. He was united in holy matrimony to Leonett Barnett. To this union three children were born, Devon Leon, Dante Leon, and Dawn Lynette. He was a proud father often acknowledging their accomplishments and achievements. Bart was an avid study of scripture and shared his knowledge of the word with his current wife, Denise Lacey. He often recited poetry and additionally has authored various songs and poems of his own. “Bart” never met a stranger and according his mother, Maybelle, he would give to the needy even though needs were many. Prior to his passing, he worshipped with the family of The Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Battle Creek where he resided.
Barthell leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Denise; Daughters, Sarita (Warren), Dawn; Sons Devon L. (Michelle), Dante (Giovannia); Grandchildren, Joshua, Devon C., Akiel, Khalil, Dante Jr., Reece, Darrius, Bradley, Gian, Timothy; Great-grandchild, Alexcenia.
