Barbara Newton

Barbara J. Newton, age 62, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, January 19, 2017 surrounded by family. She was born September 1, 1954 in Battle Creek, Michigan the daughter of George W. and Betty (Hayes) Newman. Barb was a 1972 graduate of St. Philip Catholic Central High School, was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and had attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. On September 15, 1984 she married Terry L. Newton, who survives. Also surviving are their children: Abbie (Dan) Brennan, Galen (Kayla) Newton, Joseph (Angela) Newton, Nolan Newton and Annie Newton; three grandchildren: Kya, Sadie and Shane; mother Betty Newman; brother Joseph (Patty) Newman; two sisters: Bonnie (Norm) Downey and Teresa (Phil) Reed; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father. Barb worked at Prebish Chiropractic and Newman Construction but most of all loved being “Mom”. She enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and family, and shopping trips to Target. She was very involved in the catholic schools while her children were attending, and enjoyed baseball especially the Detroit Tigers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017 at St. Philip Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Battle Creek Area Catholic Schools Foundation Scholarship Fund or the ALS Foundation. www.henryfuneralhome.org
