Our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara Jean (Marquart) Leiter, 96, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2022. Barbara was born on September 11, 1926, at her grandparent’s home, at 442 W. Van Buren Street in Battle Creek, Michigan, to Stanley and Mable (Lee) Marquart. Barbara resided in Battle Creek her entire life and lived in her current home for 72 years. She lived on the same street in Battle Creek 90+ years. Barbara graduated from Lakeview High School in 1944. She was the 1943 football queen. After high school she went to Michigan State University for one year and also worked for a short time in the payroll office at Post Cereal. Barbara was united in marriage to Charles A. Leiter in 1946 at First Congregational Church in Battle Creek and, after a few short years, became a homemaker to her husband and four sons. Barbara enjoyed art, gardening, darning, Days of our Lives, walking, baking her Sunday pies and attending her boys’ athletic events. Her family meant everything to her. Surviving are Barbara’s two sons, Thomas (Lori) Leiter, Jeff (Chris) Leiter, and daughter-in-law, Cris Leiter. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles A. Leiter; brother Richard C. Marquart; sister Marilyn Joan (Jo) Glanis; son David S. Leiter; and son Richard L. Leiter. A private funeral has taken place on December 19 at Memorial Park cemetery.
