Barbara Ann Flanders, age 91, of Athens, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2024 at Rose Arbor Place in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She was born on January 7, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Maxine (Bruce) Fulkerson.
Barbara graduated from Athens High School in 1951. After completing her education, she worked tirelessly for 23 years at Perrett Real Estate before later joining the office of Brown Brothers Construction. Barbara dedicated herself to her work and made numerous contributions that left a lasting impact on those around her. Her expertise and attention to detail earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. In 1999, after many years of hard work and dedication, Barbara retired from an accomplished career.
Outside of work, Barbara cultivated deep-rooted connections with her family and friends. She was a beloved wife to Harold W. "Flip" Flanders Jr., sharing decades of love, laughter, and cherished memories together.
As a mother, Barbara's love knew no bounds. She raised two wonderful children: Gregory L. McMillon and Cheryl Lynn Seaman. They remember their mother as a constant source of support and guidance throughout their lives. Barbara's nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family to include Ricky Lee Flanders, David Alan Flanders, Linda Sue Anderson, Sandy Jean Wise; stepchildren whom she welcomed into her heart with open arms.
Barbara had a special place in her heart for all of her grandchildren: Nicole Hassan, Jeremy Stevens, Chase McMillon, Tiffany Gudger; each one brought immense joy into her life. Her love extended to her great-grandchildren as well: Milania, Gabrielle, Derriano, Danaea, Talaya, Makenna, Tre-den, Charlotte, and Macie. Barbara cherished the moments spent with her younger relatives and was a constant source of love and wisdom throughout their lives.
Family was at the center of Barbara's world. She embraced her role as a sister wholeheartedly, sharing a special bond with her brothers, Daniel and Richard Fulkerson. Barbara valued these familial connections and fostered nurturing relationships with her sisters Betty Evans and Pat Disbrow.
Barbara's presence brought positivity and warmth into the lives of all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on through the countless nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren who were fortunate to be part of her extended family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, stepdaughters; Sharon Ann Bruce, Teri Anderson, brothers; Daniel and Richard Fulkerson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Richard A Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral service will follow at 11:30 at the funeral home, with interment at Morgan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Centrica-Rose Arbor Place in Barbara's memory.
