Audrey VandeBiezen, age 81, of West Olive, MI and formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014. She was born September 14, 1932 in Bear Creek, Alabama the daughter of Daniel W. and Grace L. (Philips) Thompson. Audrey moved with her family to Kalamazoo and in 1952 moved to Battle Creek. She was a 1965 graduate of Kellogg Community College Nursing School and had worked as a surgical nurse at Lakeview General Hospital and Leila Hospital for many years prior to her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and quilting. Surviving are six children: Linda (Tom) Fink of West Olive, George (Robbie) Roche, Jr. of Battle Creek, Jill (Jim) Farley of Battle Creek, Sandra Roche of West Palm Beach, FL, Karen (Whitman) Franklin of Battle Creek and Penny (Robert) Elegert of Battle Creek; eighteen grandchildren and twenty six great-grandchildren, and one sister: Vivian Ochampaugh of Kalamazoo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands: George Roche Sr, Albert Nowland and Cornelius VandeBiezen; sister: Norma Bauer and brother: Charles Thompson. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the funeral home with Pastor Travis Davis officiating.
