Arlene Prior

Arlene Prior, age 93 of Battle Creek, passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, OH on Sunday, May 20, 2012. She was born April 18, 1919 in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of John and Elizabeth Ann (Howe) Spalding. Mrs. Prior had worked at Nichols Hospital for three years and Post Cereal for ten years, and then married John L. Prior. They had four children who survive: Gary L. Prior, John L. Prior, Mary J. (Ed) Stanton all of Battle Creek, and Jacqueline Haukedahl and her fiancé Ray of Toledo, OH. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, and one sister: Myrtle Niblick. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson: Todd Haukedahl, one granddaughter: Susan Stanton, her twin brother: Andrew and brothers: John and Lee; and sisters: Lillian, Evelyn, Frances, Lucy and Mary. She always helped her mother and also helped to deliver two of her sister’s children. She loved to crochet, read and cook, and especially enjoyed parties with her family including her 90th Birthday celebration with all the family and grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jon Haug of St. Peter Lutheran Church officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Hospice of N.W. Ohio.
