Archibald (Archie) MacGregor Jr., 77, passed away Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Tendercare in Marshall. He was born on April 9, 1934 in Bay City, MI to Archibald Sr. and Marie (Engle) MacGregor.
Archie grew up in Bay City and graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1953. After attending junior college, Archie joined the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict as a Medic. Upon returning to the United States, he went to work at Saginaw Veterans Affairs Hospital as an orderly and then became a Fiscal Officer. He met the love of his life, Joan Kay Taylor, whom he married February 11, 1961 in Saginaw, MI. They lived in Saginaw until 1967, when they transferred to Battle Creek. He retired as Supply Officer in August 1989.He and his wife raised three sons. Archie was very active in Boy Scouts, and PTA at McKinley and W.K. Kellogg Jr. High. He enjoyed helping with baseball and church youth group. Kiwanis and Northeast Neighborhood Food Pantry were his greatest joy, involving helping kids. He loved kids. He was a member of Pennfield Presbyterian Church and served as an elder and youth leader, a member of TOPS, and a member of Battle Creek Kiwanis, serving as president and on several boards.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and younger brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife Joan of 50 years, three sons, Craig (Missy) of TN; Kevin (Kristi) of CO; and Christopher (Diana) of Marshall, seven grandchildren, Brittny and Brandon MacGregor of TN; Ashlie and Stetson MacGregor of CO; Jonathan Niland of Battle Creek, Tyler Sisco and Kayla MacGregor of Marshall, two sisters, Patricia (Jim) Herringshaw of Bay City and Janice (Jim) Militello of Kawkawlin, several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and his adopted granddaughters, Cleashae Crowder and Cashmere Kennedy, and many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm To 8pm Tuesday July 19, 2011 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 am Wednesday at the Pennfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Douglas R. Nettleton officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Northeast Food Pantry.
