Anne Wood, age 89 of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Creekside Living Center, after a 21 year journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born November 2, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Vito and Elizabeth (Russo) Amante. Anne attended South High School in Grand Rapids, moving to Battle Creek in 1942 with her husband, Edward G. Wood. They were married on January 1, 1942 and together they owned and operated Edward G. Wood Well Drilling, the oldest company of its kind in Michigan and the second oldest in the nation. Anne and Ed were active in the Antique Car Club and enjoyed working on old cars. She was preceded in death by her husband on February 19, 2006; a daughter: Sandra Lee Jennings on March 3, 1986; two sisters: Rose Chrisman and Mary Thomason and one brother: Dominic Amante. Anne is survived by her children: Susan (Bill) Schreur of Caledonia and James E. Wood of Battle Creek; seven grandchildren: Dan, Don and Zeke Jennings, Shauna (Jeff) Allchin, Jeff (Angela) Schreur, Melissa Wood and Wyley Wood; thirteen great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law: Mary Striffler and Dorothea Moore. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2015 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Chaplain Kevin Brintnall, Grace Hospice officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Private interment will be at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
