Alwilda Danis

Alwilda Danis, Age 96, Of  Battle Creek, Died Thursday, January 22, 2015, in Battle Creek. Alwilda was born on December 27, 1918, in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of Louis and Laura (Block) Vanderbrook. She attended Syracuse University, University of Buffalo and Central City Business College. On June 9, 1944, she was united in marriage to Louis Danis who preceded her in death in 1995. She was employed with JC Penney in sales retiring in 1984. Alwilda was a volunteer of Pegasus Teen Crisis Center. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and one of the founding members of the Ladies Auxiliary and Legion of Mary. She was also a Worthy Grand Matron of Eastern Star Chapter 471 in Bedford, volunteered at Leila Hospital and various other help groups.  Surviving are children, Mary Michelle Dillon of Houston, TX and Patricia Louise Kelver of Jones, MI; daughter-in-law, Jodi Danis Shawver of Battle Creek; 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons, Clifford, Paul, Louis and Michael: a brother, Louis Vanderbrook.  Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with The Rev. Evelio Ramirez  of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
