Alice M. Stamp, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. She was born September 10, 1939, in Tekonsha, Michigan, the daughter of Cecil Leroy and Leotta B. (Hunt) Baker. Alice was a 1957 graduate of Tekonsha High School and began working for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk at the Tekonsha Post Office after graduation. She worked for 35 years at various post offices and retired from the Union City Post Office as Postmaster in 1996. Alice then began working part-time at Walmart and also volunteered at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. Alice had attended both East Leroy Congregational Church and First Wesleyan Church, now known as Woodland Church. She enjoyed sewing and putting puzzles together, however her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren. On November 22, 1986, she was married to Prentiss “Pete” Stamp, Jr., who preceded her in death on December 5, 2001. She was also preceded by a son Walter Waffle, two brothers LeRoy G. Baker and Thomas Baker, and her parents. Alice is survived by four children and two step-children: Kathy (Russ) Shamplo, Sid Waffle, Marie (Thomas) Hood, Julie (Robert) Sizemore, Tim (Stephanie) Stamp and Lori (Lonnie) Jewell; ten grandchildren and four step-grandchildren: Amber Leatherman, Chandler Hamman, Courtney Hamman, Logan Shamplo, Stephanie (Jeff) Stephenson, Tyler Waffle, Dylan Waffle, Ryan Waffle, Sydney Waffle, Aubrey (John Scantlen) Woods, Kristen (Jason) Hess, Laura (Tom) McKneight, Aaryn Jewell and Shaynyn Jewell; seven great grandchildren and one step-greatgrandchild: Kyle Leatherman, Carson Leatherman, Ryker Waffle, Natalie Waffle, Hydrick Waffle, Mya Hamman, Daxx Hamman and Mia McKneight. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2023 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services with interment to follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
