Alan I. Saxman, Age 83, of Springfield, MI died Sunday, April 10, 2011, at his residence. Alan was born on May 8, 1927, in Leonidas, MI, the son of Wesley I. and Mabel E. (Troy) Saxman. He had been an area resident since 1948 coming from Leonidas and was a graduate of Colon High School. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On September 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to the former Betty L. Shannon who survives. Alan was employed with Consumers Energy as a lineman and supervisor for 40 years retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church, Delton V.F.W. #422, former member of Marshall Moose Lodge #676, American Legion #298 and a former member of the Sebring Elk’s #1529. He enjoyed traveling, wintering with Betty in Sebring, FL, golfing, fishing, hunting and bowling and spending time with his step- great granddaughter Lily. Surviving are children, Linda K. (Phil) Daniel and William A.(Sherral) Saxman both of Battle Creek; two grandchildren, Chris (Mary Alice) Brown and Kristi (Keith) Soraghan; two step-grandchildren, Lori (Jon) Halder and Jeff (Bridget) Daniel; six step-great grandchildren; brother, Robert Saxman of Bellevue; a sister, Julia Fitzgerald of Niles. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Saxman and an infant sister. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m.at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the funeral home.  Interment with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Great Lakes Home Health and Hospice, 900 Cooper Street, Jackson, MI 49202 or a Charity of Choice.
