Adeline Okerman

Adeline E. Okerman, 91, of Battle Creek passed away Sunday December 15, 2013 at home. She was born on April 23, 1922 in Chicago, IL to William C. and Lillian M. (Bachmann) Blaesing.
Adeline graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and received an Associate’s Degree from Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek. She attended Western Michigan University and Spring Arbor College. Adeline was united in marriage to John A. Okerman on October 6, 1945, he preceded her in death on December 4, 2000. She was employed by Continental Insurance Company and the Chicago Milwaukee Railroad Treasury Dept. in Chicago. Adeline was a Day Care teacher at Iroquois Nursery School and Altrusa in Battle Creek and was employed at Sears’ warehouse.
She is survived by a son, John R. “Bob” Okerman, daughters, Madeline Adie, and Karen J. (Lance) Daddow, a grandson, Eric J. (Helen) Ure, two great grandsons, Colin and Mark, all of Battle Creek. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gilbert Blaesing.
Adeline was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, American Business Women’s Association Innovation Chapter, Bronson Battle Creek Auxiliary Sewing Group, The Literacy Group, and Showers for Blessings.  She sang in the choir, was the Library Chairperson, and the Sunshine Lady at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Adeline enjoyed music, reading, crafts, and was an avid Michigan State fan. For nine years she assisted in teaching English to Japanese ladies at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 pm Friday December 20, 2013 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. Private burial of her ashes will take place at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church Building Fund, Harper Creek Baptist Church, or Binder Park Zoo.
