Laura Lou Hammer, Age 74, Of Battle Creek, Died Monday August 27, 2012, in Brandon, Florida. Laura was born on July 19, 1938, in Bellevue, Michigan, the daughter of Maurice M. and Josephine B. (Treat) Blanck. She had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Assyria Center Elementary, Bellevue Community Schools and Bellevue High School. She was employed as a nurse aid at Community Hospital then Lakeview General getting promoted to EKG technician and then into respiratory therapy as a tech. Laura worked as a Neurodiagnostic Tech at Battle Creek Health System until her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed collecting antique dishes and crystal baskets. Surviving are children, LaCinda “Cindy” (Bruce) Ellsworth and Rhonda Hammer both of Battle Creek; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Duane (Margaret) Treat of Plymouth, MI; sisters, Mabel Lake and Norma Smith both of Battle Creek; several nieces and nephews and a special loving companion, “Tuffy” the kitty and her beloved dog “Chablis”. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Misty Marie Ellsworth. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the funeral home with The Rev. James A. Carey officiating. Interment will be at Assyria Cemetery. www.henryfuneralhome.org
